New Report: Nuclear testing from decades ago continues ...

This new report from Norwegian People's Aid is the work of years, involving many expert voices, including those with direct experiences of the on-going harms of nuclear weapons "testing".

It is an essential read as the world sees nuclear threats rising and nuclear justice and disarmament stalled.

For too long, the interests of States, not people, have been at the front of the debate on nuclear testing. This report -- Is it Safe? -- is a first step in redressing that balance. 

Using the voices and views of affected communities and their leaders, buttressed by a wide range of authors from affected communities as well as international experts, the report is more balanced and more honest. Norwegian People’s Aid framed its approach to the report on advice from the Nuclear Truth Project and its Protocols.

In the report’s country case study on Australia, the words of Karina Lester are especially strong. A powerful advocate, she raises awareness of the devastating impacts of nuclear weapons on Indigenous Traditional Lands. She says in the report: 

"Walyatjata was where my late father Yami Lester witnessed the ground shake and the black smoke roll over country, silently, oily, and with a toxic smell, contaminating country and people. Leaving its poison, sickness and scars on country and people for generations to come and leaving a trail of mass destruction."
