Reclaim Advisor

Alan Owen

I am the son of Nuclear Test Veteran, James Ronald Owen, who served in the British Royal Navy at Operation Dominic on Christmas Island in 1962. He witnessed 24 detonations in 78 days and unfortunately passed away in 1994, aged 51. I was the Chairman of the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association and co-founded LABRATS in 2020. I am a Chartered IT Professional and a Fellow of the British Computer Society, which led me to create the LABRATS Academy.

My personal connection to the tests has driven my campaigning for recognition to everyone affected by the testing programs across the world. In 2022, we were successful in obtaining medallic recognition for the participants of British Nuclear Testing. I have worked with many international organisations and in 2025 spoke on behalf of the affected communities at the 3rd MSP of the TPNW (see video below).

Most recently I served as an adviser to the Oral History Project, which recorded testimonies of the Nuclear Veterans, these are available on the British Library website, along with my essay on the project.
