Karina Lester is a Yankunytjatjara Anangu woman and a second-generation survivor of the British Nuclear Tests (Totem One 1953). She grew up on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY Lands) in the far Northwest of South Australia, Australia. Karina is an outspoken anti-nuclear activist and an ICAN Ambassador, sharing not only her late father’s (Yami Lester) story but her grandmother’s story of the British Nuclear Tests at Emu Fields (Totem One & Totem Two) in 1953.

She has travelled internationally to speak out and participated in the negotiations for the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in 2014, New York, hand delivered the Indigenous Statement to the negotiating conference on behalf of 35 organisations across the globe.

Karina also attended the 2nd Meeting of States Parties (2MSP) on the TPNW in New York City at the UN Headquarters in November 2023 and in 2025 attended the 3rd Meeting of States Parties in March, New York City.

Karina also featured in a BBC Documentary, “Britain's Nuclear Scandal: Our Story” - by Hardcash Productions, UK - sharing to the world the Anangu Story.
